I have a very strong opinion about this, and feel that parents should never give their children the silent treatment. To avoid confusion, let me describe what I mean by the silent treatment, versus other forms of silence. The silent treatment is a form of punishment with the intent to inflict pain on the person that you are giving it to, and it is done with no communication as to why it is happening, how long it will last, or what the receiver of the silent treatment can do to stop it. This is different than giving your child clear consequences to a behavior such as a well-defined time-out , or not engaging with your child who is mid-tantrum. Giving your child the silent treatment means that you are punishing them in a manner that inflicts pain, that you are suddenly not speaking to them without telling them why, and that they have no defined way to get you to speak to them again. This is painful and terrifying for a child.

Introduction To The Poem The stanzas sing of an elevated union within the intimate depths of the spirit. The subject matter is exalted, so much so that John dares speak of it only with a deeply recollected soul. The image of flame, working on the wood, dispelling the moisture, turning it black, then giving it the qualities of fire, appeared first in the Dark Night. In the Canticle it turns up again in the serene night toward the end of the poem, a flame that is painless, comforting, and conformed to God. This flame, John told us there, is the love of the Holy Spirit.

Humans are dependent on parental help for a large portion of their lifespans compared to other mammals. Love has therefore been seen as a mechanism to promote parental support of children for this extended time period. Furthermore, researchers as early as Charles Darwin himself identified unique features of human love compared to other mammals and credit love as a major factor for creating social support systems that enabled the development and expansion of the human species.
Progress on my Project a Month feature I've been giving a lot of thought to what I would like to do on Feeling Stitchy this year. Last year, cancer and chemotherapy slowed my schedule, but I realized, not in a bad way. Everything I've been through made me re-evaluate the direction of all my time, including this blog.
